I never expected to find such a gem in Cedar Rapids. I wondered in on a Monday night and was able to grab a spot at the bar. Since I had an early day on Tuesday, I was not indulging in adult beverages but was able to order a limeade that was every bit as satisfying as a cocktail. For my meal, I ordered the Monday night oyster special--$1.75/ea. That was a deal! and the $21 dinner salad--not a deal. I also ordered a side of bread that was toasted and delicious. While the salad was pricey, the serving size was large and it was filled with apples, cranberries and veggies. I truly enjoyed it.
Service was excellent. Both bartenders were attentive and chatty. I felt welcome and will definitely go back on my next IA visit.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 2294301714Nov 29, 2022
What a cute spot in town. We came by for happy hour. The ambiance was very intimate and romantic, it would make for the perfect date night. We split two cocktails they had great $6 prices, the peach spritz was our favorite. Definitely come check this spot out, and make a reservation if you are coming for dinner.

I absolutely loved everything I had. The smells, the visuals, it was all perfect. I felt like I was on vacation.

Seeing as my last review was from a couple of years ago, I thought I would write a quick update to reiterate just how great this place is. I stand by the comments I made previously about the quality, care, and atmosphere of Rodina.
My most recent outing to Rodina was to enjoy a Chef's Tasting dinner for our table of four. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing the Chef's Tasting the next time you are there. It was such a delight to have the chefs whip up a truly unique, 7-course tasting meal. From the first course to the last, every dish led well into the next and allowed the chefs to creatively express themselves through the simple-yet-somehow-complex flavors that dazzled the tastebuds. Paired with top-quality cocktails and whiskey - and an incredibly personable, knowledgable waiter - this was the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Andrea,
Thanks so much for this super kind review! We are so pleased you enjoyed the Chef’s Tasting. And thanks for sharing the great photos! We look forward to hosting you again :)
Cheers!May 9, 2019Previous reviewEverything about this place is warm, inviting, and comfortable. The space is smaller, yet very well thought out to make each seating area feel open. There is also a private room off to the right of where you first enter that is still partially open to the rest of the restaurant. The chef confirmed that they are in the process of building out a new patio on the side of the building... stay tuned for the patio open by the mid-June or so.
All of the food was fresh, flavorful, and light. Not once did I feel like I was being weighed down by what I was eating. Though everything was delicious, my favorite dish was the Country Egg & Ham. The combination of the salty prosciutto with the egg and creamy-yet-zesty paprika cream made for the perfect bite. The Cabbage Salad was a close second favorite with an incredible herb vinaigrette that made what was already a fresh salad taste even fresher. The madeleines were also a new, tasty surprise for my tastebuds at the end of the meal. They had such a simple list of ingredients, yet they were so complex.
I would also like to note that everyone who spoke with our group was humble, polite, and genuine. Having people with such great character care for your food and dining experience amplifies the positive vibes of the entire experience. - Reece T.Iowa City, IA11825Aug 4, 2023
Sad to see this place close. An excellent upscale and approachable experience. Outstanding service and drinks. You can absolutely tell the food is prepared with love and care...but I can see how the menu may not be for everyone. Apps like chicken hearts on a skewer are very tasty, local and uses the animal in a unique and bountiful way...I enjoyed them very much with my Manhattan. But I assume dishes like that are under appreciated in CR.

The food was in incredible! The menu items available are limited based on the season because they try to use local farmers and produce. But the selection offered were items I had never seen before on any menu. So I started out with liver dumplings. Which were more like meatballs. They were antelope and absolutely incredible. Very tasty and dense, not very hard core liver taste, which I wouldn't mind! But very savory and satisfying. Then my husband ordered the boar pasta and I the duck cottage pie. We both were in love with our meals and to offered an item which we are not offered often was refreshing and delicious. We were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and they had a little framed sign and complimentary champagne for us. Highly recommend and would return next time we are in town. In remembrance of our night, I even bought a merchandise hoodie.

We went for the Sunday brunch and all got the classic breakfast. We also had our 1 year old (who loved all the fresh fruit!) The service was great and the food (all local) was delicious. For drinks we had coffees (comes in cute cups) and a mimosa. We are excited to go back! Although they have a small menu, it's perfect for those who get overwhelmed by large menus.

Came here for brunch spontaneously. My French toast was amazing. The Bloody Mary was just right!

By far the best dining experience in the Cedar Rapids - Iowa City corridor. From the handmade pasta to the perfected pork, steak and game dishes to the innovative preparation of seasonal vegetables, your tastebuds will thank you for visiting. Further, the classic and nouveau cocktails easily beat out area competitors in their balance and perfection. Rodina uniquely transports their guests all the way home to the very best of Grandma's homemade meals while delivering an elegant and elevated experience - a magic that is all their own.

We were heading to see the National Czech and Slovak Museum, but due to construction and traffic delays, arrived too late. As we were driving to through the Czech Village, we saw this restaurant and decided to try to have our dinner here.
The eclectic menu offers a selection of dishes that most people would enjoy. This restaurant gives a fine dining experience. They have a nice selection of wines and cocktails to accompany your meal.
Husband chose the braised pork with potatoes and radishes. He said it was a modern version of a dish he had growing up made by his grandmother. He liked it very much. I got the meatballs, gravy and mashed potatoes served in a small cast iron skillet. For dessert, we shared a brownie baked in a small jar. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted great.
Our server was accommodating and very attentive. All and all a good experience. The locals are fortunate to have this restaurant as an option.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
