November 5 marks another Election Day when voters get to weigh in on the issues that matter most. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance will host two Candidate Forums to allow our members access to the 2^nd District Congressional candidates before voting takes place. The two forums are sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors and allow the candidates to share their priorities for Iowa, listen to the business community’s priorities and interact with Q&A time. Parents and their children from birth to school age are invited to join the Cedar Rapids Hike It Baby chapter for a family-friendly hike at the Nature Center! Hike It Baby is a national non-profit organization that offers new parents an opportunity to connect and get into nature with their young children. Dress appropriately for the weather, as we will be outdoors for the full hour. Baby carriers and all-terrain strollers are welcome, but strollers are not suitable for all trails. Feel free to pack a lunch to enjoy with the group on the Patio afterwards! Free for Hike It Baby members, $5 per adult for non-members. All children are free. Pre-registration is required.

Lace up your hiking shoes and venture out at dusk to join a small group of adventurers for a guided night hike. The ICNC prairie and woodland trails will be lit by the light of the full moon, but you'll also want to bring a flashlight or headlamp, just in case of cloud cover. Encounters with wildlife are sure to occur! Hikers should dress for the weather. Children are welcome, including babies in carriers. (Strollers not recommended). Friendly dogs on leashes are also welcome. Fee: $5 Members $10 Nonmembers. Pre-registration is required.

Scott is the former director of the Kirkwood Small Business Development Center where he counseled thousands of small businesses, startups and aspiring entrepreneurs.

David Tominsky is an entrepreneur and community builder based in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Tominsky has over 15 years of experience in talent acquisition and founded a technical recruiting company before leading the Iowa Startup Accelerator. He was the Chief Relationship Officer at NewBoCo, where he led their technical and creative services team building products and prototypes for startups.Tominsky currently serves as a Partner at Novy, a Midwest venture studio, where he oversees the Ideation and Validation stages.

ImpactCR is teaming up with Sleep In Heavenly Peace, a local nonprofit passionate about making sure EVERY boy and girl between the ages of 3 and 17 have a bed to call their own, for a great volunteer opportunity. We will be delivering and assembling beds to families in our area. We are looking for 30 volunteers help make this opportunity a success. There will be a separate volunteer form from Sleep In Heavenly Peace you will need to fill out. If you have a truck or large SUV, please note that on the volunteer form to come.

With ImpactCR, young professionals don’t just come to exchange business cards; they come to create opportunities for learning and development, support civic engagement and to cultivate the future business and community leaders of the Cedar Rapids Metro.
