The Pork Tornadoes are a powerful party band that has played all around the Midwest at the best and biggest bars, festivals, corporate events, and weddings. Having played more than 600 shows in the last 12 years, this band has perfected their live show into an experience you won't find anywhere else. Their live show does the talking for them and their signature taglines "Your Girlfriend's Favorite Band" and "BeardPop." The shroud of mystery surrounding the band, the terribly poor choice of band name, and the head-scratching, enormous amount of video views (12 million) and fans on every social media website (75,000) are enough to bring curious music lovers out to a show to "see what all the fuss is about." Regularly helping bars and events sell out of alcohol, this band is a force like no other, creating a party wherever they go for their ravenous fan base, who sings along and begs for more. Birdchild will open the show starting at 9:30 PM. Standing room only tickets are $25 plus tax and an online/phone ticketing fee (this fee is waived when tickets are purchased in the Gift Shop). Tickets in the ADA section are for patrons with mobility disabilities and up to three companions. The Busse Foundation JA Finance Park® Mobile combines educator-led learning with a hands-on, immersive budgeting simulation that will be implemented on-site at Mount Mercy University for students enrolled in Professor Seth Pennock’s personal finance course. This learning experience helps students to identify personal interests, skills, work preferences, and values, evaluate the risks and benefits of saving and investing, and define taxes, explain their purpose, and understand how they affect everyone. For over 40 years, the Freedom Festival has helped to create memories for those that work, live, play, and visit Cedar Rapids and the corridor! The Freedom Festival begins each year on Flag Day, the 14th of June, and continues the three weeks leading up to and including Independence Day, the 4th of July. Utilizing many local venues, parks, vendors, businesses, and city services, the Festival adopts a “support local” approach. While the Freedom Festival receives much support from the City of Cedar Rapids, it’s a completely separate 501(c)3 nonprofit entity. In keeping with the Freedom Festival’s mission, we make it a priority that all of our programming is either low or no cost, to make sure that the entire community can celebrate a sense of patriotism and community, without cost being a barrier to enjoyment. Marnie Schultz, Freedom Festivals Event and Marketing Director, is looking for feedback from the community on their likes/ dislikes about the festival, things the festival could do better, and what they'd like to see at their events in the future. The Freedom Festival organization would like to encourage people to not only attend our events but to also be advocates for our festival so we can remain a staple in the Cedar Rapids community

Help support LFS Class of 2024 by donating to their class project that will help Feed Iowa First farm and their mission of combating food insecurities!

The Feed Iowa First farm is transitioning from an open field to specialty crop production, which commenced in the spring of 2023 and is the primary location for culturally relevant food production in Eastern Iowa. In 2023, tens of thousands of pounds were produced.

This project to transition the field would expand facilities on the farm to build a wash and pack shed that is Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certifiable and would allow emerging farmers a designated on-site space to wash and sanitize products properly. It will include three large tanks for a triple dunk washing system, a large sink to wash and sanitize bins, a spray-down table, and a stainless-steel table for packing.
