Event Description:
On behalf of the Julie Ritter Streib Fund and the Coe College Spanish Program of the Foreign Language Department, Dr. Ana M. Rodríguez- Rodríguez presents "Homage to Cervantes: The Teachings of Don Quijote." Miguel de Cervantes is one of the most read authors in the world. His novel Don Quixote - the first modern novel - remains the finest according to many literary critics.
The influence of Cervantes goes beyond the world of literature to the worlds of music, art and cinema. But what is all the fuss about? What can we learn today from Cervantes’ book? Is this just the story of a fool, of a madman? Is this a book about friendship? About what is real and what is not? About the searching of the self? To answer these and many other questions, Associate Professor of Golden Age Spanish Literature at the University of Iowa, Dr. Ana Rodríguez-Rodríguez, will talk about the teachings of Don Quijote in commemoration of Cervantes death in April 1616.
