Event Description: Dr. Donald Gurnett, professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa, will present a lecture on “The Voyager 1 Mission to the Outer Planets and into Interstellar Space." The lecture is sponsored by Mount Mercy University as part of the Linn County Connections programs, and is free and open to the public. Dr. Gurnett was an early astrophysics researcher and was intimately involved with both the Voyager 1 and 2 missions to explore our solar system, and he is still actively involved in teaching and research today. Dr. Gurnett will discuss some of the great discoveries made by Voyager 1, as it flew by the outer planets and 35 years after launch became the first human-made object to reach interstellar space.
