Event Description: Award-winning poet and translator Sawako Nakayasu will read from her most recent collections of poetry and translations on Monday, March 28, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Perrine Gallery of Stewart Memorial Library on the Coe College campus. The event is open to the public at no charge. Refreshments will be served and Nakayasu's books will be for sale. In addition, Nakayasu will participate in a question-and-answer session exploring her poetry and translation work with Coe Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and Film Studies Nick Twemlow. Nakayasu's translation of "The Collected Poems of Chika Sagaway" (Canarium Books, 2015) was just awarded the 2016 PEN Prize in Translation. Her poetry books include "The Ants" (Les Figues Press, 2014) and "Texture Notes" (Letter Machine, 2010). Nakayasu's other translations include Tatsumi Hijikata's "Costume en Face" (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2015). Nakayasu was born in Japan and raised in the United States. She has received fellowships from the NEA and PEN, and her own work has been translated into Japanese, Norwegian, Swedish, Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese.
