Event Description: Join Coe College as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Enjoy a continental breakfast followed by remarks from Coe College President David McInally. Then listen to the sounds of gospel singers before the keynote address by Associate Professor of History Brie Swenson-Arnold. Also, featured during this celebration event are student speeches, slam poetry, reflections on Martin Luther King Jr., and closing remarks by Stacey Walker. Walker is among community leaders who recently formed a group in Cedar Rapids that pledges to address causes of violence, including drug addiction, mental illness, unemployment and poverty. This event is free and open to the public.
