Event Description:
Tournament of Drums is BACK!! TOD is a long-standing event in the community, with drum & bugle corps from around the country converging in Cedar Rapids for rehearsals and a competition. Hosts: Washington Marching Band, Kennedy Marching Band, Emerald Knights Drum & Bugle Corps Alumni and the Iowa Music & Arts Association. Presented by: Colts Drum & Bugle Corps, Dubuque, Iowa. The Drum Corps Mission is to provide motivated young people an opportunity to participate in intensive and accelerated performing arts ensembles, and in the process learn life skills that will allow them to grow as leaders of the future. Youths in the corps are generally ages 12 to 21 and spend the summer perfecting their shows in competitions throughout the United States and beyond. Drum corps activity in Cedar Rapids stems back to 1927, when 12 charter members formed the Cedar Rapids Playground Drum & Bugle Corps, the first drum and bugle corps in Iowa. While the Emerald Knights have been inactive since 2002, there is still a long history to celebrate!
