Event Description: Coe College's Thursday Forum takes a whirlwind tour of Morocco and Egypt in December. With the aid of photography from his travels in both countries, Biology Professor Emeritus Floyd Sandford will discuss these two fascinating destinations. The single presentation on Dec. 3 explores the cultural and historical perspectives of Morocco and Egypt. From tribes of nomadic Berbers, to conquest by Rome, to Arabs invading in the seventh century bringing Islam, to an influx of Jews and Moors from Spain, to French and Spanish colonization, to independence and sovereignty in 1956, to the current constitutional monarchy it is today, Morocco has had a fascinating history. The history and culture of Egypt is even more varied, encompassing thousands of years of recorded history as one of the world’s earliest civilizations.
