Event Description:
In celebration of his 70th birthday year, Iowa composer Jerry Owen presents a concert of his own music on Sunday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Coe College’s Sinclair Auditorium. The fourth in a series of concerts presented in review of the previous decade’s new pieces, the concert will include seven works featuring 10 of Iowa’s most prominent performers. Iowa poet and Coe College English Professor Ann Struthers will make a special appearance reading from her book of poems “Stoneboat.”
Admission to the concert is free and no tickets are required.
Jerry Owen is the Alma A. Turechek Professor Emeritus of Music at Coe College. He has been critically acclaimed as the "Dean" of Iowa composers, as a "state treasure," and for creating works of "genius." After a 38-year-long career teaching composition and music theory, as well as conducting ensembles, Owen continues to compose for artist level performers and to publish his music. He stays in close touch with new music in Iowa through his leadership role in the Iowa Composers Forum.
