Event Description:
To recognize the talent of illustrators here in Iowa, the Museum Store at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is hosting a panel discussion and book signing in conjunction with the Museum’s three current exhibitions: The ABCs of Children’s Book Illustration, Drawn to Illustration, and Drawing on History: Jeni Reeves’ Illustrations for “Voice of Freedom: A Story about Frederick Douglass.”
Area illustrators including Jeni Reeves, Claudia McGehee, Arthur Geisert, Katherine House and Gary Kelley will be sharing stories and anecdotes about children’s book production, tracing the evolution of a book from concept to reality, highlighting the multitude of steps in between. This panel discussion and book signing complements the illustration art on view in the galleries as well as brings a face to some of your favorite children’s books.
The panel discussion is 1:00-2:00 p.m., with a question-and-answer period from 2:00-2:30 p.m. Afterwards there will be a book signing with all the authors until 3:30 p.m. Books will be for sale in the Museum Store. The event is free.
