Event Description:
Mount Mercy University will host visiting writer Frank X. Walker on Oct. 9 in Betty Cherry Heritage Hall as a part of the Doerge Race and Gender Speaker Series. A Q&A will be held at 3:30 p.m., and a reading at 7 p.m.
The first African American Poet Laureate of Kentucky, Frank X Walker has edited two poetry anthologies and authored six of his own collections. His most recent, “Turn Me Loose” (2013), explores the 1963 assassination of civil rights leader Medgar Evers. In addition to being a poet, Walker is also a visual artist, a producer of video documentaries and an Associate Professor of English at the University of Kentucky.
The event is open to the public, but space is limited.
