Event Description: Paul Jones spent 36 years in the same high school classroom teaching science to Iowa farm kids. The year before his retirement Jones took a field assignment to study a polar desert ecosystem with scientists in the McMurdo Dry Valleys. This research is part of the National Science Foundation-sponsored program, “Teachers Experiencing Antarctica.” Jones was hooked. For many past Antarctica summers he has returned but in an entirely different role as one of the operators for the research facility’s water plant. Hear firsthand about life and challenges at McMurdo Station and about his experiences in the field camp in the Antarctica dry valleys. COST: Member: $4; Non Member: $6
