Event Description: The Cedar Rapids Science Center and the EpiCenter Maker Group are hosting the 2nd Annual Mini Maker Faire at 10am-4pm on Saturday, April 27th, at the Science Center, Lindale Mall, Cedar Rapids, IA. Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. It’s free to attend the event and explore maker exhibits. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community. Makers will demonstrate and exhibit their creative work in science, technology, invention and the arts. Special guests will include makers from the QC-Co-Lab, Quad Cities Collaboration Space, The Mill, Minneapolis, The Des Moines Hackerspace and Make: KC. Faire visitors can expect to see 3-D printers, CNC technology, robotics; quad copters with cameras; toy and electronic musical instrument hacking; a superconductor demo; liquid nitrogen smashing of fruits; persistence of vision demo's; a Vandegraph, and many more! Our displays will focus on creative applications of technology, the arts and sciences. If you are a Maker and interested in sharing your work with the public, please contact us above for exhibitor fees and information. “This is a great opportunity for local talent to showcase their creativity in the form of inventive products and services. You may not know you’re a maker or a fan of makers yet, but after you attend the event you will see what this movement is all about.” – Jim Jacobmeyer The EpiCenter is CR's innovation and creativity center.
