Event Description: The 7th annual Coaches for Kids fundraiser to benefit Children of Promise programs is scheduled for April 2. This year's program includes a keynote speech by Miss America 2012, Laura Kaeppeler. Laura will discuss the need for mentoring youth, particularly those with a parent in prison. This topic is near to her heart, as she herself overcame similar life-challenges in her own childhood. Iowa football coach, Kirk Ferentz, will present the “Coach of the Year Award” - this award has reinforced the many ways community members can step up and be “coaches” for kids. Gary Dolphin, the voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes will act as emcee for the evening. The event includes a dinner, as well as a silent and live auction. Children of Promise programs, sponsored by the Community Corrections Improvement Association, provide mentoring support for 375 youth facing multiple life-challenges in Linn and Johnson counties.
