Event Description: Mount Mercy University Associate Professor of Economics Ayman Amer, Ph.D., will offer a unique perspective on income inequality during his lecture, “Explaining Three Decades of Rising U.S. Income Inequality” on Tuesday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. in Basile Hall’s Flaherty Community Room. The lecture is free and open to the public, seating may be limited. Amer will present descriptive statistics and empirical explanations of the rising income inequality in the United States, a phenomenon most visible in 2007, where the top 10 percent of the population took in approximately half of all U.S. income. Historically, this large income gap took place only once before – in 1929. Amer will also help illustrate how the income gap is visible and significant by race and gender.
